A 16-year-old motorcyclist died after he ran a red light and crashed into a sport-utility vehicle in Lawndale on Tuesday night, police said.

Carmelo Mangual was traveling eastbound on Devereaux Avenue aboard a 2007 Kawasaki at about 10:17 p.m. when he disregarded a steady red signal and collided with a 2013 Infiniti, police said. The driver of the SUV swerved to avoid the crash, but couldn’t avoid the motorcycle, which was traveling at “a high rate of speed.”
