Crusaders win wiffle ball title

The Crusaders went 7-1 to win the seventh Szychulski Wiffleball Tournament at the Bensalem Ramblers fields on Hulmeville Road.

Members of the winning team were Denis Szychulski III, Nick Shiffler and Jack Szychulski.

Denis Szychulski was named tournament Most Valuable Player. He’s a 2022 Father Judge graduate who plays baseball at Holy Family.

Shiffler was named championship Most Valuable Player. He’s a 2023 Judge graduate and member of the PIAA Class 6A championship baseball team his senior year who now plays at West Chester.

Jack Szychulski is about to enter eighth grade at Maternity BVM and plans to be a member of the Judge class of 2029.

In the championship game, the Crusaders edged Barry’s Bombers, 7-6.

In all, 12 teams competed, first in pool play, with the top eight finishers advancing to a double-elimination tournament.

The champions won $1,000 and a large trophy.

A week earlier, Denis Szychulski and Jack Szychulski were among the members of a team that was the runner-up at the Holly Colwell Save 2nd Base Wiffle Ball Tournament, held at Robert Hayes Playground in Bustleton. ••
