The Far Northeast Small Business Association met again on Aug. 22 at Paddy Whacks Irish Sports Pub, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Guest speakers included businessman Brian Tierney, who outlined ways companies could benefit by installing money-saving solar panels on their roofs and electric vehicle charging stations in their parking lots. Tierney, representing the company SuperNova, explained that the number of electric vehicles on the road will be increasing. Also addressing the group was Sean Dougherty, the Democratic candidate in the 172nd Legislative District. Dougherty said, if elected, he will be an ally for small businesses. He said successful small businesses will be good for the Northeast. He described himself as a Fox Chase resident who attended Greenberg Elementary School, St. Albert the Great, La Salle High School and Chestnut Hill College, where he was on the basketball team.

“This is a team that I want to be a part of,” Dougherty told FNESBA members.

The group also heard from committee chairpersons and Anya Chuyko, business services manager in the 10th Councilmanic District for the city Department of Commerce’s Mayor’s Business Action Team.

There were raffles for photo shoots and gift cards to Paddy Whacks.

The newly formed business group is led by president Joe Kennedy, vice president Missy Murray, treasurer D.J. Jones and secretary Patrick O’Brien, who have been going business to business to build membership.

The FNESBA will help people starting businesses.
