Rock breaks window at Northeast synagogue

Someone threw a rock through a window of a Northeast synagogue just before a Dec. 2 service, but police are not convinced that the incident was motivated by religious hate.

A member of the congregation of Temple Menorah Keneseth Chai, at 4301 Tyson Ave., contacted police at about 7:50 p.m. to report that an unidentified person had thrown a rock at a window on the front of the worship site. The rock broke the window. Police reported that the value of the damage was $100, although the Jewish Exponent newspaper reported that the pane was about four feet tall and 15 to 18 inches wide.

The Exponent further reported that synagogue President Malcolm Adler was walking down an aisle just prior to the evening service when a baseball-sized rock crashed through a window, narrowly missing Adler. The witness told the paper that about 30 people were in the sanctuary and none were injured.

Services continued as scheduled that night. ••
