Robber hammers Tacony pizza man

An opportunist criminal with a hammer robbed a pizza delivery man in Tacony on Dec. 7, but his good fortune didn’t last long. Minutes later, police used their own bit of opportunism to lock him up.

It happened at about 8:15 p.m. on the 6400 block of Ditman St. The pizza driver had just dropped off a pie at a nearby home when two men approached him on the street. One of the assailants beat the victim on the head with a hammer and stole about $90 cash from him.

After the robbers fled, the victim called 911.

Officers from the 15th district were on patrol in the area when they spotted a man fitting one of the robbers’ descriptions walking on the 4600 block of Magee Ave., about two blocks from the crime scene. Police detained the suspect so that the victim could identify him as one of the robbers. Investigators found the hammer lying in the street nearby. ••
