On Saturday, a Halloween Trunk-or-Treat Spooktacular will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mayfair Memorial Playground, Rowland Avenue and Vista Street. For $3, kids can dress in costume and enjoy treats from participating businesses and other sponsors. Proceeds go to the playground.

Also on Saturday, from 1 to 5 p.m., the Insectarium, 8046 Frankford Ave., will host a Halloween party. There will be glow-in-the-dark cockroach races, a bug costume contest, pumpkin painting, paper-mache bug mask making and an opportunity to hold cockroaches, tarantulas and other creepy crawlers. Call 215–338–3000.

Local businesses are starting to place collection boxes for Toys for Tots. One early participant is Dunphy Motors, 7700 Frankford Ave., whose campaign starts on Saturday.

The business group supports the Mayfair Civic Association’s Halloween and Christmas home decorating contests.

The annual Mayfair Holmesburg Thanksgiving Parade is set for Sunday, Nov. 20, at noon along Frankford Avenue. The route travels from Rhawn Street to Knorr Street. The Gilbert family, owners of Mayfair Shop ‘N Bag, will be grand marshals. The rain date is Nov. 27. More information is available at thanksgivingparade.org

The business association is planning its annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony and Christmas village for Sunday, Dec. 4, at Frankford and Cottman avenues.

The Mayfair Business Association will meet again on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. at Berkshire Hathaway. ••
