The first shooting happened near a Mayfair sports bar at about 8:22 p.m. and resulted in the slaying of Kevin Twist, 34, of the 3100 block of Wellington St. Police say that the victim and Stylles Rusling, 28, quarreled in a parking lot on the 7200 block of Frankford Ave. When the dispute turned physical, Rusling allegedly “pulled a handgun” and shot twice, striking Twist once in the neck, police said.

The location of the shooting is outside Reale’s Sports Bar & Grille. Police did not specify any direct connection between the incident and the taproom.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and pronounced Twist dead at 8:27 p.m. Police arrested Rusling at the scene and recovered the gun. Rusling, of the 3200 block of Princeton Ave., was charged with murder, firearms violations and possessing an instrument of crime.

Rusling has no prior arrests listed in Philadelphia’s online court records. He is being held in a city prison and was denied bail by statute because he is charged with a capital offense. A preliminary court hearing is scheduled for Aug. 3.

More gunfire erupted barely one hour later, at 9:28 p.m., on the 5900 block of Horrocks St. in Frankford.

A 15-year-old girl was standing on the sidewalk when an unknown masked man approached her on foot, removed a black shotgun from a black duffel bag and pointed it toward her, police say. The gunman fired once, wounding the girl in the buttocks. He then fled in an unknown direction.

Police rushed the victim to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where she was admitted in stable condition. Authorities have not disclosed her identity or her latest condition.

The victim reportedly told police that she did not know who shot her and does not know anyone who would want to harm her. She said she was leaving a block party at the time of the shooting, police said. A motive for the violence is not known.

The shooter was described as black, 5 feet 5 inches tall, with a black ski mask, black hoodie and black sweatpants. His age is not known. Call Northeast Detectives at 215–686–3153 to report information. ••
