In August, a local man was stabbed to death shortly after leaving the taproom at 2808 Cottman Ave. Then the business shut down for undisclosed reasons.

And on April 18, someone set fire to the property, with the flames gutting the building and spreading to adjoining strip-mall businesses. On April 26, Philadelphia police released surveillance video of the suspected arsonist.

Cameras at a nearby Sunoco station recorded a man walking toward the former Owen’s at 6:08 p.m. the day of the fire. He was carrying unknown objects in both hands. The fire started a short time later.

The suspect was described as white and thin with a dark T-shirt adorned with a logo on the left chest and design on the back. He also wore tan pants. The video is viewable on the Philadelphia Police channel on YouTube. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information.

As for the fatal stabbing of Thomas Ewing, 21, last Aug. 8, authorities charged Angelo Maldonado, 39, of Juniata Park, with the slaying three days later. He is held in the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center without bail pending trial, which has not been scheduled. ••
