The officers responded to a call for a “person screaming” on Feb. 25 and arrived at an undisclosed location where they encountered “Ms. Lee,” who was in the passenger side of a car and in later stages of labor. The officers obtained some towels from neighbors and helped the mother deliver a baby girl. She was named Janailee.

Tower 38 and Medic 2 units from the Philadelphia Fire Department also responded to the call and helped the officers. The paramedics took the mother and child to Temple University Hospital.

Klepesky and Berry were recognized by their supervisor, Sgt. Joseph Mortimer, for their confidence and poise during the procedure. They remained calm while helping bring a baby girl into the world. Capt. John McCloskey, who was commander of the 15th district at the time, approved Mortimer’s nomination. ••
