Police seek serial bank robber in Northeast

Police are seeking a man suspected of robbing multiple banks in Lawncrest and Castor Gardens.

The FBI/Philadelphia Police Department Violent Crimes Task Force is seeking the public’s assistance to identify and locate a serial bank robber who targeted two Northeast banks on Monday afternoon and another in early October.

At about 12:37 p.m. on Monday, the man entered the Bank of America branch at 6425 Rising Sun Ave. He approached the counter and handed a teller a threatening demand note. Shortly thereafter, he fled the bank empty-handed, exiting through the back door.

At about 2:51 p.m., he entered the M&T Bank branch at 6500 Castor Ave., where he presented a teller a threatening demand note. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, he fled the area of the bank.

This subject is believed also responsible for the Oct. 5 robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank branch at 6611 Castor Ave.

He is described as a black male in his early to mid-20s, about 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10 inches tall, thin build, with a short scruffy beard. At the first bank he targeted on Monday, he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and jeans. For the second robbery, he had on a green hooded sweatshirt and black hat. On Oct. 5, he was wearing a dark gray sweatshirt, dark-colored jeans and dark baseball cap.

The man is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about these robberies or the suspect is urged to call the FBI/PPD Violent Crimes Task Force at 215–418–4000.

A reward is being offered for information leading to the individual’s capture. Tipsters can remain anonymous. ••
