A group of teenage boys went swimming in the Delaware River late Friday night, but one of them did not return to shore.

Members of the Philadelphia Police Department’s Marine Unit recovered human remains from the river just south of Linden Avenue in Torresdale on Sunday. They suspect the body may be that of Antoine Fox, 16, who went missing while swimming nearby two days earlier.

The city’s medical examiner had not determined the victim’s identity as of yesterday afternoon, according to Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum of Northeast Detectives.

Fox, of the 2600 block of Elbridge Street in Mayfair, was among several teens who jumped into the Delaware from the Linden Avenue boat launch on Friday night. Shortly after 10:30 p.m., the other boys made it back to shore, but Fox did not.

Firefighters, police and the U.S. Coast Guard searched the area that night and throughout Saturday, but found no trace of the missing boy. Police found the as-yet unidentified body in the water at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. ••
