Postseason wrap-up

Football

Central, 28; Northeast, 20: Public League defending champion Northeast High School suffered a chilling loss to Central High in the first round of the Public League Class AAAA playoffs on Friday afternoon.

Junior running back Marquise Edwards rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown. He also grabbed an interception. Wide receiver Devon Dillard caught three passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

The Vikings’ junior quarterback, Harold Alexander, completed seven of 17 attempts for 158 yards and a pair of TDs.

Although their postseason run is over, Northeast still has several non-league games to play and will conclude its season with the annual Thanksgiving Day game against Central.

Boys soccer

Father Judge, 3; Roman Catholic, 0: The Father Judge soccer squad ousted Roman Catholic in style during the Catholic League semifinals on Halloween night.

Nick Battaglia and Kevin Pohl, both three-year varsity players and team captains, netted one goal each. Vontez Hilliard, a forward and midfielder, scored as well. Goalkeeper Dylan Trush recorded six saves.

The Crusaders are scheduled to face La Salle in the Catholic League championship on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.

Central, 4; Abraham Lincoln, 2: The Abraham Lincoln soccer team lost to Central in the Public League Class AAA quarterfinals on Oct. 25. Midfielder Danny Montano and Tasham Abdulrasool had goals for Lincoln.

The Railsplitters end their season with a 7–6 overall record.

Northeast, 4; Samuel Fels, 1: After downing defending Public League champion Bartram, 1–0, in the Class AAA quarterfinals on Oct. 25, the Samuel Fels soccer team fell to Northeast High in the semifinals two days later.

The Panthers finish their season 10–3 overall, including five shutouts.

George Washington, 3; Central 2: George Washington High School squeezed past Central in the Public League Class AAA semifinals to extend their undefeated season.

Freshman standout Mohamed Conde netted two goals, and senior All-Public forward Wilo Mimbar scored once. Washington goalie Danny Paraskevov had five saves.

George Washington was slated to face Northeast High School in the Public League championship on Tuesday evening, but the game was played after the Times went to press this week. Visit www.BSMPhilly.com on Wednesday for a full report on the title match-up.

Frankford did not qualify for postseason play.

Girls soccer

Archbishop Wood, 5; Archbishop Ryan, 0: Ryan’s soccer team failed to score during the Catholic League semifinal game with Archbishop Wood on Halloween.

The Ragdolls had earned a place in the semifinals after defeating St. Hubert, 2–1, in the quarterfinals on Oct. 26.

Little Flower, 2; Lansdale Catholic, 1: Regulation time was not enough for a team to emerge as the winner in the Catholic League semifinals on Halloween. Little Flower senior midfielder Courtney Widener had tied the game with a late second-half goal.

Two minutes into overtime, the Sentinels triumphed on a goal by Brianna Connelly. Goaltender Megan Cullen had eight saves.

Little Flower is slated to face Archbishop Wood in the Catholic League championship on Thursday at 6 p.m. Check out next week’s Northeast Times for complete game coverage. ull;•
