Northeast family organizes benefit for cancer patients

Cancer patient Debbie Chakler and her family and friends are sponsoring a benefit for needy cancer patients this Saturday, from 7 p.m. to midnight, at the fancy Cescaphe Ballroom, at 923 N. Second St. in Northern Liberties.

Debbie Chakler and her husband Ron live in Bustleton. They have two children and four grandchildren.

Last August, Debbie, a vibrant and healthy 55 years old who worked as a music department aide at George Washington High School, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Today, she is doing well, and her body is responding to chemotherapy treatments. She has brought a positive attitude to her fight and receives support from her tight-knit family. She also subscribes to alternative and nutritional therapies.

She and her supporters have founded a non-profit organization named A Miracle for Debbie to support others with cancer.

Tickets cost $150 and include open bar, butlered hors d’oeuvres, entrée, live entertainment from The Exceptions and valet parking. There will also be raffles and live and silent auctions. Black tie is optional.
