Come out to cheer vets on bus trip to D.C. memorials

The public is being encouraged to cheer for local World War II veterans on Sunday, Sept. 9, as they travel to Washington, D.C., as part of a program sponsored by Honor Flight Philadelphia.

The bus will depart Casino Deli, at 2425 Welsh Road, at 6 a.m. and return about 10 p.m.

The group will visit Arlington National Cemetery for a changing of the guard and wreath-laying ceremony. Other highlights include visits to memorials dedicated to service women, the Air Force, Abraham Lincoln, Iwo Jima and veterans of the Korean War, Vietnam War and World War II.

After leaving D.C., the vets will be treated to dinner and entertainment at a church/social center in Broomall, Delaware County. The bus then will return the vets to the Casino Deli.

People are invited to wave a flag, bring a sign and cheer the vets as they depart and return home.
