Police shoot murder suspect

Philadelphia police on Friday shot a man wanted for his alleged role in a Sept. 10 murder in Northwood.

Maceo Emerson Waring, 27, of the 1100 block of S. Paxon St., allegedly attempted to grab an officer’s gun during a scuffle with police on Friday on the 3200 block of Oxford St. Police then shot Waring, who was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical, but stable condition, according to the police department’s media relations unit.

Details about Waring’s injuries were not disclosed.

Waring was wanted in connection with the slaying of Naeem Giles, 24, of the 4600 block of Horrocks St., at 11:36 p.m. on Sept. 10.

Police found Giles in the street with multiple gunshot wounds of the torso. Giles lived on the 4200 block of Salem St. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not disclosed a suspected motive in the killing. ••
