Soldier gets a warm welcome

Rhawnhurst residents recently welcomed neighbor A.J. Logan home from a tour in Afghanistan.

About 200 people turned out at the family home on Summerdale Avenue.

Logan, a specialist in the U.S. Army, arrived home via escort from the Philadelphia Police Department and Warriors’ Watch Riders. The Philadelphia Fire Department Foam 18 truck flashed its lights and turned on its siren to indicate his arrival.

A disc jockey played The Star-Spangled Banner, patriotic music and the Eagles’ fight song. The Greater Kensington String Band entertained the crowd, which had plenty to eat and drink.

Neighbors waved American flags and joined in a chant of “A.J.” The home was decorated with red, white and blue balloons, and people held signs with messages such as, “Welcome Home Spc. A.J. Logan. My Neighbor. My Hero.”

State Rep. John Sabatina Jr. presented Logan with a Pennsylvania House of Representatives proclamation. ••
