The Ramada Inn on Roosevelt Boulevard is home to one of the city’s top-rated comedy clubs, but when the police department’s City Wide Vice Unit shows up at the hotel, it’s no laughing matter.
Undercover cops raided a room and arrested an alleged hooker as well as a suspected drug dealer at the hotel on March 13. The bust was one of two prostitution-related stings carried out by the vice unit that day. Separately, officers also arrested a Trevose woman for allegedly using an unlicensed massage business on Geiger Road to sell sex.
The Ramada Inn is at 11580 Roosevelt Blvd., only a couple of blocks from the scene of an unrelated prostitution raid on March 5. This time, police made contact with the suspected hooker through a classified advertisement on the World Wide Web. The cop posed as a John and was instructed to meet the woman in Room 210.
Once inside the room, the officer met Jamie Barrera, 31, of the 4700 block of Sheffield St. in Holmesburg. Barrera allegedly offered to have sex with the cop for money. She was arrested on prostitution and drug possession charges. Police did not say what type of drugs the woman had.
During the investigation, police also encountered Omar Alvarado at the hotel. Alvarado, 29, of the 3500 block of N. Fifth St., allegedly had 54 packets of crack cocaine in his possession and $401 cash. They arrested him for drug possession with intent to deliver.
In an unrelated case, vice cops received a tip from an undisclosed source of possible prostitution activity in a commercial property at 220 Geiger Road, near Red Lion Road, in Bustleton. An undercover officer went to the address on March 13, ostensibly to get a massage. During the visit, Irina Bogdanova, 43, of the 1800 block of Bridgetown Pike in Trevose, allegedly offered to have sex with the officer for cash. She was arrested for prostitution, solicitation and practicing massage without a license. ••
