A Frankford boy died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound of the head inside his home on Saturday.
Police were called to the 4600 block of Tackawanna St. at about 8 a.m. after the 12-year-old victim’s mother called 911. The woman told officers that she heard a gunshot and went to the boy’s bedroom to find him laying on the floor with a head wound, said Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum of Northeast Detectives. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Police recovered a handgun at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation, including how the boy apparently obtained the weapon. No criminal charges were filed initially. ••
