Lawncrest man to stand trial for murder

A Lawncrest man has been ordered to stand trial for the June 21 fatal shooting of another man on the 500 block of Rosalie St.

William Stancil, 19, of the 500 block of Sanger St., allegedly robbed and murdered Jose Rivera in the street at about 1:46 a.m. Rivera, 35, of the 3000 block of N. Franklin St., suffered a chest wound and died at the scene. Police arrested Stancil on Aug. 15 and charged him with the crime. Robbery was his alleged motive.

Following an Oct. 1 preliminary hearing, Municipal Court Judge Roger F. Gordon ordered Stancil tried for murder, robbery, firearms violations and possessing an instrument of crime. Stancil is to be arraigned in Common Pleas Court on Oct. 22. He remains in Philadelphia prison custody without bail. A trial date has not been set. ••
