Where is all the outrage?
Philadelphia Police Oficer Robert Wilson died in the line of duty on March 5, leaving two young sons behind. He was killed senselessly by two street thugs.
I’m waiting for President Obama to express his concerns, Attorney General Holder, his outrage, and Rev. Al Sharpton to demand we end the war on police.
I’m waiting for ABC, NBC and CBS news to glorify this fallen officer in the same way they elevated street thug Michael Brown to sainthood.
I’m waiting for all those letter writers and community activists to start complaining about “citizen brutality” against the police.
Will there now be commissions demanding convicted felons wear body cameras? Will police now be trained to beg criminals: “(My) hands up, don’t shoot.”
Where are all of you? The silence is deafening.

Stop raising property taxes
I am a product of Philadelphia public schools and I had many great teachers back in the days from 1967 to 1979. But, my best teachers were my parents who are now in heaven.
But another tax increase will only chase more people to the suburbs and hurt our senior citizens and poor people.
Increasing funding will and has not improved the results of our school children.
“Dear Dr. Hite: What percentage of young men and women that graduated our schools since these tax increases started are working? How much money do they earn per annum?”
Compare this to the past before these incessant tax increases/AVI.
The only thing that counts is the end result — jobs and income.
If we decentralize the district, the next step will be to sell them off in parcels the same way we franchised off cable TV in Philadelphia to private entities and the same way the city tried to sell PGW.
Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice, shame on us.

Candidate is impressive
On March 24 there is a special election to fill the state representative seat vacated by now Congressman Brendan Boyle.
Brendan and I both attend St. Christopher’s parish and I went to college with his brother Kevin. They are a hard-working family and I respect that a great deal.
Recently, the woman who wants to fill his seat, Martina White, came to our home. She was walking through our neighborhood introducing herself. She was undaunted by the ice, snow and freezing temperatures.
It says a lot about the work ethic of someone who is willing to come out in this weather to ask you face to face for your vote. If that’s the kind of effort she will put forward in Harrisburg, I’m confident we will have good representation.
Martina, thank you for taking the time to meet my wife and children and good luck.

Be safe on your motorcycle
It’s March and it’s downhill from here to motorcycle riding season even in most snow-choked places.
Just remember that when you bust her free from garage solitary and go party that a DUI will ruin your day. Besides the fines, plus court costs, paying to get your bike out of impound, and missing work to listen to a judge tell you how bad you messed up, there is that loss of licence for a year.
You don’t want that old Schwinn in the garage to be your summer ride. Party hardy, but don’t be an idiot.
The life and bank account you save might be your own.
