Philadelphia Federal Credit Union is holding its fourth annual art competition to coincide with National Financial Literacy Month.
PFCU’s “Picture of Success Art Contest” is open to Philadelphia-area students in third through fifth grades and is designed to teach children how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits.
Each student will submit a work of art that depicts one of their financial goals, and winners of the contest will receive prizes for their entire classroom, along with a personal $100 savings account. The deadline to submit entries is April 30.
National Financial Literacy Month takes place each April, promoting the importance of financial literacy and establishing good financial practices.
“One of the most important lessons in life that a person can learn is how to successfully manage their money,” said Erin Ellis, accredited financial counselor at PFCU. “Through the art contest, we’re providing parents and teachers with a tool to start conversations with kids about habits that will help them achieve their financial goals now through adulthood. We can’t wait to see students’ illustrations of their financial goals, whether that is a short-term savings goal such as purchasing a favorite toy or a long-term savings goal of saving money for college.”
A committee will select 10 finalists. On May 11, the artwork from the finalists will be posted on PFCU’s Facebook page for the public to vote on through May 25. Two winners will be announced on PFCU’s Facebook page on May 26.
“PFCU is committed to providing the financial tools and knowledge young people need to grow to become financially independent adults,” said James McAneney, president/CEO of PFCU. “PFCU’s art contest is a great way for parents and schools to take advantage of National Financial Literacy Month by teaching young people about invaluable lessons such as how to budget and save money.”
