One week after a Bell’s Corner resident’s savvy with surveillance equipment helped police capture a roving shrubbery nabber, some folks in Wissinoming are hoping that a similar tactic will help them identify another petty thief.
On May 7, Facebook user Cheryl Morgan posted the new surveillance video in the “Mayfair UNCENSORED” group with the following description: “This POS pulled up to my neighbors house in the Wissinoming area and stole her daughters bike right off their porch at 1:30 pm! PLEASE SHARE THIS VIDEO! Someone will recognize this balding man! I know its not very clear, but there is no doubt SOMEONE WILL RECOGNIZE HIM just by the vehicle and how he carries himself.”
By Tuesday afternoon, the video had almost 157,000 views and more than 5,200 shares. It shows a man pulling up to the curb in front of the victim’s house in a dark luxury sedan. After sitting there for about 30 seconds, the driver exits the car, walks up a half-dozen steps onto the porch and grabs a small child’s bicycle. He totes the bike back to the car and drops it into his trunk before fleeing. The entire crime took about one minute.
In a subsequent comment on the video, the victim’s mother said that her daughter got the bike for her birthday two years ago but was too small to ride it, so she had to wait. This was the first spring when she was able to actually ride it. The mother said that the crime had been reported to police and the video shared with broadcast news stations. Police have released no information about the progress of the investigation. ••
