Beef and beer at St. Martin’s
St. Martin of Tours, 5450 Roosevelt Blvd., will hold a beef and beer on Friday, Sept. 18, at 8 p.m.
Tickets cost $30 and include beef, beer, salads, soft drinks, desserts and a disc jockey. It’s also a BYOB event.
All tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at the rectory or at the religious goods store after weekend Masses.
All proceeds benefit the St. Martin of Tours building restoration fund.

Thrift shop to reopen
The Classroom Thrift Shop, 4301 Tyson Ave., will reopen on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m.
Shop hours through the winter will be weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Water Dept. to hold meeting
The Philadelphia Water Department will hold a meeting on Thursday, Aug. 27, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Moss Playground, at Torresdale and Cheltenham avenues.
The discussion will be about landscaping improvements that will help soak up stormwater runoff and beautify the playground.

Block party at local church

Cannstatter’s to host Irish Festival
Cannstatter Volksfest Verein will become Irish for a weekend when the German-American club presents its annual Northeast Philly Irish Festival on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12 and 13. The festivities will be held rain or shine at 9130 Academy Road with a big top tent.
Performers will include Deirdre Reilly from Nashville, Timlin & Kane, Bogside Rogues, Oliver McElhone, Belfast Connection, The Hooligans, Celtic Connection and Irish dance groups.
There will be children’s activities, Irish vendors, ethnic foods and beverages.

Cancer fundraiser is Sept. 19
The Trovato family will sponsor Breathe Deep Philadelphia, a 5K walk and fun run in Pennypack Park on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the park near the entrance at Rhawn and Holmehurst streets. The walk and fun run start at 10 a.m.
Proceeds will benefit the LUNGevity Foundation, the nation’s largest private funder of lung cancer research.

Second-hand shop will reopen
Ann’s Attic, Holmesburg United Methodist Church’s second-hand shop, will reopen from the summer break Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m.
The shop, which has opened an additional room, features household items, knick-knacks, jewelry, clothes, hand bags, tapes, CDs, toys and more.
No item is over $5.
Ann’s Attic is located beneath the sanctuary of the church, 8118 Frankford Ave., between Welsh Road and Stanwood Street, right next door to JH Brown Elementary School.
The shop is open every Wednesday from 11 a.m to 4 p.m.
Proceeds from the shop support programs and services of the church, including a weekly food cupboard and King’s Kitchen, the church’s daily meal program. ••
Bike Ride for Peace details announced
The 2nd Police District Advisory Council, 2nd Police District and Sen. Christine Tartaglione will present the 11th annual Community Day and Bike Ride for Peace on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Target, 7400 Bustleton Ave.
The bike ride will start at 9 a.m. and tour the neighborhoods of the 2nd district before returning to Target. Family activities from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. will include a DJ, child face painting and refreshments. Visitors can take advantage of several safety programs such as child fingerprinting, VIN etching, document shredding and bike registration.
