Amtrak train strikes man in Tacony

An Amtrak train struck and critically injured a man who was walking along the railroad tracks in Tacony last Wednesday morning.

The train was traveling northbound on the Northeast Corridor near Levick Street at about 1:51 a.m. when it “clipped” a 43-year-old man who was walking along the tracks, police said. Paramedics took the man to Hahnemann University Hospital in critical condition. His identity has not been released.

Police did not report why the man was so close to the tracks, which run between Disston Park and Interstate 95. There were 117 passengers on the train plus crew members, but no additional injuries, according to a published report. ••
