A multi-vehicle crash that may have been caused by excessive speed claimed one life and injured a second person critically on Roosevelt Boulevard in Bustleton on Saturday night.
The crash reportedly occurred at about 10:20 p.m. in the southbound inner lanes near Woodward Street when a 2002 Nissan slammed into a 2003 Toyota, struck a traffic light pole and collided with a 2015 Acura that was stopped in the southbound left-hand turning lane. Police at the scene said that the Nissan’s driver was ejected from his car and landed about 50 feet south of the impact. The 19-year-old died at the scene. He was later identified as Martin Navarro Lopez of the 6700 block of Jackson St.
The Toyota driver reportedly suffered fractured ribs and bruised lungs. He was hospitalized at Aria Health’s Torresdale campus in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.
Photographs from the scene showed the mangled vehicles involved, with the interior of the Nissan fully exposed due to major structural damage to the car. ••
