OLC student national finalist in teen innovator contest

Our Lady of Calvary eighth-grader Ciara Dubeck is competing in a national contest to bring health and wellness to her school.

This fall, SAP and AdVenture Capital brought together young entrepreneurs at events across the country to develop and pitch their big ideas to improve health and wellness in their schools.

Ciara has created the idea of a competitive health and wellness app/website. Students will wear a pedometer and track their steps, create classroom gardens to see who can grow the largest variety of produce, take part in weekly gym competitions and compete in healthy recipe contests.

Students will track their progress and their points on Ciara’s website and app. Prizes will be awarded throughout the year.

Ciara won the Mid-Atlantic Region contest, and is one of 10 national finalists.

The top two student projects from each regional event are competing for the public’s votes to win the title of SAP’s Teen Innovator, an all-expenses paid trip to Super Bowl 50 and $10,000 in grants to their school to implement their ideas.

Voting ends at midnight on Friday, Dec. 4. To vote for Ciara, go to https://adcapyouth.wishpond.com/social-innovation/entries/65720510 ••
