Yet another crook employed what authorities described as “Muslim garb” as a cover in the commission of a violent crime on Dec. 31. Last week, police released surveillance video of the armed robbery of a Mayfair pharmacy in hope of identifying the gunman.
The hold-up occurred at 6:20 a.m. in a bustling Rite Aid store at 6363 Frankford Ave. A man was dressed head-to-toe in a black hood and robe, while carrying a white pocketbook. As another patron was about to complete a purchase, the suspect cut to the front of the line, placed two bottles of shampoo on the counter and pointed a silver gun at the cashier.
As another employee pulled the cashier away from her register, the robber reached over the counter and grabbed cash from the till. Police did not disclose a dollar amount. The robber then fled in an unknown direction.
Police described him as black with a dark complexion, 6 feet tall, 160 pounds, with “all-black Muslim garb” and a gray or silver handgun wrapped in tape and with an orange tip.
