A new veterans’ peer support group is inviting U.S. military veterans who served in Iraq, Afghanistan and other combat situations to join weekly meetings at Aria Health’s Torresdale hospital starting on May 16. The Monday sessions will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Mansion House conference room at 10800 Knights Road.
The sessions will use the Healing Ajax model, an innovative, brothers-in-arms approach to help veterans reintegrate into society. It’s possible that only fellow veterans can truly understand the transition from battlefield to homefront. Healing Ajax is not clinical therapy. It’s a peer support group in which veterans share their traumatic events and coping skills with their comrades, who are going through similar experiences.
It’s veterans helping veterans, giving them a support network, helping them get the assistance they need in a way that protects their privacy. There is no stigma, no obligation and no cost.
