Officer prevents alleged robbery at his house

A Philadelphia police officer found himself face-to-face with a couple of crooks inside the cop’s own home on May 31. The confrontation led to gunfire and two arrests, according to the police department.

It happened on the 3300 block of Wellington St. in Mayfair shortly after 1 p.m. The off-duty officer arrived home, entered his front door and saw that his television was missing. He also saw that the rear kitchen window was open and that the back door was ajar. He then heard voices and movement in the basement, police said.

At the top of the basement stairs, he identified himself as a police officer and pulled his gun, but an unknown man began to charge up the stairs toward him. The officer shot once and missed as the suspect fell downstairs. The burglar and an accomplice both ran out the basement door with the officer chasing them on foot. Another off-duty cop saw one of the suspects fleeing and captured him at Brighton and Hawthorne streets. Police arrested a second suspect on the 3200 block of Wellington St.

Authorities identified the burglars as Ricky Mosley, a.k.a. Ameen Mosley, 37, of the 2600 block of W. Seltzer St.; and Lynel Henry, 22, of the 7200 block of Cottage St. Both remain in Philadelphia prison in lieu of bail while awaiting a June 16 preliminary hearing. ••
