Three masked men with a pickaxe invaded a Castor Gardens home and made off with about $3,500 cash on Sunday evening, police say.
It happened at about 7:30 p.m. on the 6700 block of Rutland St. At least three men were inside the home when they heard a knock at the front door. When one of the men went to check the door, three intruders entered through a rear basement door. One of the crooks held one of the residents captive in a bedroom while two other bandits searched the house. The robbers took the cash and a cell phone before fleeing in a white, four-door sedan northbound on Rutland Street.
The occupants of the house described the intruders as three black men with dark masks, gloves and clothing. Two of the crooks appeared to be in their late teens or early 20s. Both stood about 5 feet 7 inches tall. The third suspect was about 30 years old and about 6 feet tall.
No injuries were reported. ••
