Block Gives Back event on Saturday

The event starts 11 a.m. at Carmella Playground.

The Block Gives Back will hold a Peace and Play Day on Saturday, Aug. 5, starting at 11 a.m. at Carmella Playground, 2100 Wakeling St. in Frankford.

The event had been set for July 29, but postponed due to expected rain.

The day will include motivational speakers, including former Democratic state representative candidate Joe Hohenstein, advocating against street violence.

Activities will include live music, a disc jockey, football, basketball, wiffle ball, soccer, volleyball, dodgeball, kickball, a water balloon fight, musical chairs, arts and crafts, face-painting and a watermelon-eating contest.

Proceeds will benefit the Jack Costello Boxing Club.
