An 89-year-old woman lost her life when a wayward SUV veered onto a Bustleton sidewalk during a chain-reaction crash last Thursday.

Hannah Turkow, of the 2600 block of Willits Road, was walking on the south side of Grant Avenue just west of Krewstown Road shortly after 2 p.m. when a 2016 Toyota Rav 4 struck and killed her.

Police said a 65-year-old woman was behind the wheel of the SUV, which was traveling in the eastbound right lane on Grant. The Toyota initially collided with two other vehicles that were traveling in the left eastbound lane. It then swerved right, mounted a curb and struck Turkow.

Paramedics took Turkow to Aria-Jefferson Health’s Torresdale campus with injuries of the leg, arm, torso and internal organs. She died shortly before 2 a.m. on Friday.

The driver remained at the scene after the accident and has not been charged criminally. Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor. No other injuries were reported. ••
