Playing politics

Looks like Brendan Boyle is starting his campaign for Senate. How come he didn’t come up with this gas tax reduction idea when Biden had $4 a gallon gas. This is the problem with him and Congress. They hide their pimples when it’s their party. Acting like it never happens when they are in power. It only occurs when the other party is in control. It’s time for Congress to stop playing playground “are too” and “am not” games and start acting like adults.

Spending spree

I am very disappointed that Mayor Parker has chosen the same old tax, tax, tax approach to our city budget.

Do you soon want to pay a tax to ride Uber or be taxed on every Amazon package delivered to your door?

Haven’t we recently seen a 30 percent increase in property taxes? Most single seniors now pay $750 or more a year just in our water bills.

Ten years ago, the city budget was $3.95 billion. The new proposed budget is nearly $7 billion. That’s close to doubling in the last 10 years.

With all the improvements in computer technology and AI analysis — why don’t we ever see any cuts to the cost of government?

Does our spineless local media ever ask about accountability for all this spending? Will Republicans — or somebody – please speak up.

The city does not do a true questioning audit. Three years ago it seems they did an annual financial report. Outside auditors approved it, but apparently all they did was say the numbers added up. No “why” to the spending.

Is it too much to ask that the city (and Board of Education) publish its budget online, in one place, easy, accessible and in simple form?

Citizens should be able to find their local health center, library or school and find out what jobs exist there, the payroll (no names) and all outside services. List every city contract, too. Now that would be money well spent.

I’m guessing we’d be shocked to find how much money is wasted. Maybe we could even push the media to get out of bed and examine all the jobs and contracts that are unnecessary

Remember the bigger the government, the smaller the citizen. Set no limits, and all you are is a shrinking servant, always asked to give more.
