The Holmesburg Civic Association last week considered three zoning cases.
A day care is being proposed for 4401 Cottman Ave., the former home of McGeehan’s Rock Bottom bar. A couple living next to the property was strongly against the proposal, but the board and membership voted to support the idea, 6-4. The day care plans to be open weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. A tentative Zoning Board of Adjustment hearing is set for May 20.
The civic also supported two proposals in a show of hands.
The owner of a vehicle repair shop at 7350-52 Wissinoming St. gained the OK to add a paint shop.
The owner of a house on the 4100 block of Decatur St. was successful in seeking support for legalization of a garage he built to replace one lost to fire. The garage does not meet the required 3-foot setback, sending the owner to the ZBA.
In other news from the April 14 meeting, the Holmesburg Recreation Center-based Star Players will present three performances of the musical Sister Act. The show will be performed on June 5, 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. at Venice Island Performing Arts Center, 7 Lock St., in Manayunk. The cast will include state Rep. Joe Hohenstein as Pope Paul VI. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. They are available for purchase through Venmo @TheStarplayers or at Holmesburg Recreation Center, 4500 Rhawn St. For more information, contact director Bill Arthur at 215-685-8714 or [email protected]. ••
