Drive-by shooting leaves man critically wounded in Oxford Circle

The gunfire erupted Thursday night on Alcott Street near Summerdale Avenue hours after a parking dispute.

Police detectives believe a dispute between neighbors over a parking spot prompted a drive-by shooting in Oxford Circle last Thursday night.

Originally, police reported the gunfire occurred at a stoplight in the area of Summerdale and Cheltenham avenues at about 11:12 p.m. That’s where they found the 24-year-old male victim outside his car with multiple wounds of the torso.

On Tuesday, Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum of Northeast Detectives said that the shots actually occurred on the 1000 block of Alcott St., a side street about two blocks from the location where police found the victim after he crashed while attempting to drive himself to a hospital.

Paramedics took the wounded man to Albert Einstein Medical Center in critical condition.

The victim remains hospitalized and has been unable to give his side of the story to police, but detectives believe he was involved in a dispute with a neighbor over a parking spot at about 6 p.m. that evening, Rosenbaum said.

Previously, police said the shots originated from inside a white car, possibly a Buick, that was last seen traveling northbound on Summerdale Avenue from the scene. The shooter was described as a Hispanic man in his 30s with long hair, a beard, a v-neck T-shirt and blue jeans. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information. ••
