George Marko and Edward Sawicki were named 7th Police District Advisory Council’s Officers of the Month.
Just after midnight on Oct. 13, the two responded to an aggravated assault call on the 8400 block of Bustleton Ave. A man was attacking his father while the father was driving because the son had been told he was no longer able to use the vehicle.
Marko, Sawicki and a passerby stopped the attack. The man, who was punching, kicking and choking his dad, was arrested.
Less than two hours later, Marko and Sawicki received a radio call of a burglary in progress on the 9600 block of Hilspach St. There, they found the complainant was an off-duty officer, who had detained a man trying to steal a mountain bike. Marko and Sawicki investigated further and found the detained man had tried to gain entry to the property by cutting screens on several windows. The officers arrested the man.
In addition to the PDAC award, both officers received awards from state Sen. John Sabatina Jr., state Reps. Kevin Boyle and Martina White and City Councilman Brian O’Neill. They also received gifts from Mission BBQ, Texas Roadhouse, Wawa and the Rosenthal family. ••
