Police are looking for a man who they say targeted two Payless shoe stores in the Northeast last week.

Both incidents happened just minutes apart on the night of Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Officers responded around 8:35 p.m. to the Payless at 2327 Cottman Ave. for a report of a robbery in progress. Authorities said a store employee told them that a black man approached the register, threw a blue bag on the counter and demanded cash. He was also clutching his waistband, according to the employee’s account.

The employee refused to hand over any money, and the man fled the store, police said. He apparently went to the Payless store at 4640 Roosevelt Blvd. because authorities said he pulled the same routine there just after 8:50 p.m.

Police said the suspect took an undetermined amount of money and then fled the store.

Anyone with any information about the suspect or the incidents is asked to contact Northeast Detectives at 215-686-3153/3154. All tips will remain confidential. ••
