Crime Log: Jan. 2, 2019

The Northeast Times provides an overview of crimes reported to the four police districts in the Northeast. The details are based on reports compiled by the Northeast Detectives division of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Dec. 10 through 23

As reported by Northeast Detectives. Does not include homicides, sexual assaults, narcotics offenses or other specific crimes investigated by special police units. All locations listed by block, not by exact address.

2nd Police District

There were 10 robberies, most of which took place on the street. Robberies on the street involving handguns took place at 6700 Castor Ave. on Dec. 12 and 1300 Robbins St. on Dec. 21. A robbery involving a knife took place on the street at 400 Van Kirk St. on Dec. 18. Robberies on the street that did not involve weapons happened at 1500 Tyson Ave. (Dec. 11), 7400 Shisler St. (Dec. 19), 6600 Bustleton Ave. (Dec. 19) and 6000 Rising Sun Ave. (Dec. 21). Others took place at chain stores and involved handguns at 2300 Cottman Ave. (Dec. 11) and 4600 Roosevelt Blvd. (Dec. 11). A robbery involving a handgun happened at a private residence at 6600 Lynford St. (Dec. 21).

There were six aggravated assaults. Malik Prince, 24, was arrested Dec. 15 following an assault on the street at 7500 Castor Ave. Others took place on the street, including at 6500 Everett Ave. (Dec. 11) and the intersection of Kerper Street and Rising Sun Avenue, which included knives, and 1200 Van Kirk St. (Dec. 21) and 6000 Summerdale Ave. (Dec. 20). A domestic assault took place at a private residence at 7500 Palmetto St. (Dec. 21).

There were 13 burglaries, most of which happened at private residences or apartment houses. Burglaries at private residences happened at 500 Magee Ave. (Dec. 13), 800 Bridge St. (Dec. 16), 5700 Weymouth St. (Dec. 12), 900 Sanger St. (Dec. 14), 6700 Akron St. (Dec. 19) and 6800 Lynford St. (Dec. 12). Burglaries happened at apartment houses at 6600 Castor Ave. (Dec. 14), 7000 Rising Sun Ave. (Dec. 11), 7300 Montour St. (Dec. 12) and 200 Elbridge St. (Dec. 17). Others took place twice at a church at 1100 Hartel Ave. (Dec. 16 and 22) and a retail location at 7600 Castor Ave. (Dec. 10).

There were 76 thefts, which targeted 38 vehicles (including four stolen vehicle tags), 23 businesses, six street thefts, three private residences, two gas stations, a doctor’s office, a bicycle, hotel/motel and a hospital. Two arrests were made. In addition, 19 vehicles were reported stolen, 13 of which have been recovered.

7th Police District

There were two robberies, both of which took place on the street. A vehicle robbery involving a handgun took place at the intersection of Langdon and Stanwood streets on Dec. 20. A robbery on the street of 2300 Woodward St. took place Dec. 17.

There were two aggravated assaults. An assault involving a handgun took place at an apartment house on Brookshire Drive on Dec. 18. An assault involving a weapon took place at a private residence at 11600 Hendrix Terrance on Dec. 18, which resulted in an arrest.

There were five burglaries, which mostly targeted retail stores and apartment houses. Burglaries at retail stores took place at 10000 Roosevelt Blvd. (Dec. 20) and 11000 Roosevelt Blvd. (Dec. 16). There were two burglary attempts at apartment houses, which happened at 2100 Welsh Road (Dec. 21) and 9200 Jamison Ave. (Dec. 17). A day care facility at 500 Red Lion Road was burglarized Dec. 16.

There were 35 thefts, which targeted 19 vehicles (including three stolen car phones and two stolen vehicle tags), seven businesses, six street thefts, two apartment houses and a gas station. One arrest was made. In addition, four vehicles were stolen and there was an attempt to steal a fifth vehicle. One of the stolen vehicles was recovered.

8th Police District

There were three robberies. Christopher Harrell, 25, was arrested Dec. 14 following two robberies at a department store at 4300 Byberry Road. A private residence at 9400 Torresdale Ave. was robbed with a handgun Dec. 23.

There were four aggravated assaults. Kevin Kalitz, 56, and Kevin Kalitz Jr., 35, were arrested following an assault on the street at 3700 S. Hereford Lane on Dec. 16. Two assaults took place at a prison facility at 8101 State Road (Dec. 23) and a gang on gang assault at 8000 State Road (Dec. 15). An assault involving a knife took place on the street at 9400 Kirkwood Road on Dec. 14.

There were three burglaries and three burglary attempts, which happened mostly at private residences and apartment houses. The burglaries at private residences took place at 4000 Kendrick St. (Dec. 11) and attempts at 9900 S. Canterbury Road (Dec. 11) and 4000 Benson St. (Dec. 19). Burglaries at apartment houses happened at 4200 Woodhaven Road (Dec. 10) and an attempt at 3500 Nottingham Lane (Dec. 16). A chain store at 9100 Roosevelt Blvd. was burglarized Dec. 23.

There were 58 thefts, which targeted 23 businesses, 21 vehicles (including two stolen car phones and two stolen vehicle tags), five street thefts (including a pickpocketing), three apartment houses, two private residences, a public school, a bicycle, a nursing home and an unspecified location. Five arrests were made. In addition, nine vehicles were stolen, four of which have been recovered.

15th Police District

There were 20 robberies, most of which took place on the street. Darnell Leggett, 42, was arrested Dec. 15 following a robbery on the street of 4700 Leiper St. Robberies on the street involving handguns happened at 4200 Frankford Ave. (Dec. 11), 1700 Orthodox St. (Dec. 13), 6600 Hegerman St. (Dec. 19), the intersection of Brous and Ryan avenues (Dec. 19) and 3100 Knorr St. (Dec. 21). Robberies involving knives or others happened at 5100 Ditman St. (Dec. 17), 1500 E. Cheltenham Ave. (Dec. 19), 6400 Torresdale Ave. (Dec. 18) and 4300 Levick St. (Dec. 18). Robberies that happened on the street not involving weapons happened at 1500 Arrott St. (Dec. 10), 1400 Unity St. (Dec. 12), 3500 Wellington St. (Dec. 15), 4000 Robbins St. (Dec. 16), 6300 Walker St. (Dec. 18) and 5300 Roosevelt Blvd. (Dec. 19). Other robberies took place at private residences at 3200 Wellington St. (Dec. 14), which involved a handgun, 1600 Wakeling St. (Dec. 16), which involved a knife, and 4200 Vista St. (Dec. 12), which involved no weapon. A bank at 7300 Frankford Ave. was robbed with a handgun Dec. 16.

There were 16 aggravated assaults. Assaults that took place on the street and involved handguns happened at 6900 Torresdale Ave. (Dec. 13), 6200 Charles St. (Dec. 14), 6200 Crafton St. (Dec. 19), 1600 Bridge St. (Dec. 19) and twice at 4100 Paul St. (Dec. 23). Assaults involving other weapons took place on the street at 3000 Princeton Ave. (Dec. 11), 1500 Pratt St. (Dec. 14) and 6200 Cardiff St. (Dec. 17), at a bar/cafe at 6900 Frankford Ave. (Dec. 22) and a private residence at 4700 Loring St. (Dec. 12). Domestic assaults took place at private residences at 5200 Ditman St. (Dec. 18), 7200 Erdrick St. (Dec. 19) and 5000 F St. (Dec. 16) and on the street at 5200 Frankford Ave. (Dec. 15).

There were 13 burglaries, most of which happened at private residences. These happened at 4300 Oakmont St. (Dec. 13), 3300 Oakmont St. (Dec. 15), 6700 Torresdale Ave. (Dec. 17), 2100 Sanger St. (Dec. 13), 5400 Akron St. (Dec. 10), 1100 Overington St. (Dec. 11), 5000 Homestead St. (Dec. 10) and 1300 Unity St. (Dec. 22) and an attempt at 5000 Homestead St. (Dec. 19). Other burglaries took place at apartment houses at 6300 Tulip St. (Dec. 17) and 4800 Longshore Ave. (Dec. 20), a factory/warehouse at 2200 Fraley St. (Dec. 13) and a building under construction at 4500 Sheffield Ave. (Dec. 18).

There were 101 thefts, which targeted 43 vehicles (including a stolen car phone and two stolen vehicle tags), 21 businesses, 21 street thefts (including two pickpockets), nine private residences, four apartment houses, a public school, a bicycle and an unspecified location. Three arrests were made. In addition, 50 vehicles were reported stolen, 40 of which have been recovered. ••
