Chinese celebration on Sunday

The Northeast Philadelphia Chinese Association will celebrate its one-year anniversary on Sunday, March 10, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Northeast Regional Library, 2228 Cottman Ave.

The event will feature cultural performances such as yoga dance, a costume show, opera, singing and kung fu.

The rain date is March 24.

History meeting on Quaker women

The Northeast Philadelphia History Network will meet on Wednesday, March 6, at 7 p.m. at Pennepack Baptist Church, 8732 Krewstown Road.

The topic will be Quaker Women of the 17th Century. The speaker will be Sarah Rudich, director of institutional advancement at Pennsbury Manor. ••

Flea market at St. Dominic’s

St. Dominic’s Catholic Daughters are holding a flea market on Saturday, March 9, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Marian Hall, 8532 Frankford Ave.

The day will include home baked goods, food and lottery tickets for sale. ••

Apply to become crossing guard

The Philadelphia Police Department is hiring school crossing guards. In response to the crossing guard shortage in the Northeast, City Councilman Brian O’Neill is encouraging local residents to apply.

The application process runs through March 22. There will not be a written test, but preference will be given to Philadelphia residents, veterans and legacy and bilingual applicants.

Edison alums lunching on March 13

The Thomas A. Edison High School Alumni and Friends Association will hold a luncheon on Wednesday, March 13, at 1 p.m. at Michael’s Restaurant, 3340 Street Road in Bensalem.

The cost is $30. Memorabilia will be available. Alums are welcome to bring a friend.

“Ghost” hosting sports trivia 

The Pennsylvania SPCA is teaming with Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere to host Philly Sports Trivia at the Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St. in Fishtown, on Tuesday, March 12, at 7 p.m.

The trivia will center around the Flyers, Phillies, Eagles and 76ers. It will be hosted by WIP’s Al Morganti. Tickets cost $20.

For $75, guests can attend a meet and greet with Gostisbehere from 6 to 7 p.m. The fee includes food, two drinks and prime seating.

 A happy hour will go from 6 to 7 p.m. and include drink specials and raffles. All proceeds will benefit the Pennsylvania SPCA. For tickets and information, go to punchlinephilly.com ••

Father Judge presents Godspell

The Father Judge High School theater arts department will present Godspell from March 7-10 in the school auditorium, 3301 Solly Ave. Show times are 7 p.m. on March 7-9 and 2 p.m. on March 10.

Ticket prices are $8 in advance. At the door, tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for children.

Vendors and bingo on March 24

Redemption Lutheran Church, 8001 Bustleton Ave. (at Rhawn Street), is hosting vendor bingo on Sunday, March 24.

Vendor shopping starts at 1 p.m., and bingo begins at 2 p.m.

The event is a fundraiser for the ministries of the church as well as Rhawnhurst Turning Point.

Tickets cost $25. There will be 10 rounds of bingo, each with a prize from a vendor. 

Admission also includes snacks and an entry to the grand prize raffle.

Concert March 17 at St. William

The St. William Sunday Concert Series will continue on March 17 at 2 p.m. at the church, 6200 Rising Sun Ave.

The program will feature Constantia, a group from Holy Angels Parish that will perform a variety of pieces.

There will be a freewill offering for admission.  Light refreshments will follow the concert. 

Free parking will be available on the street and in the MaST II lot across from the church. ••

Ballet coming to Penn Charter

Metropolitan Ballet Company will host guest artists from the San Francisco Ballet’s trainee program for Variations/Collaborations, An Evening of Dance and Music on Saturday, March 23, at 7 p.m. at Penn Charter’s Kurtz Center, 3000 W. School House Lane.

The program will also feature collaborations with Settlement Music School.

Garden talk radio show on WWDB

Joey and Holly Baird announced the upcoming third season of The Wisconsin Vegetable Gardener Radio Show, a garden talk radio show WWDB (860 AM).

The show will run on Sundays from 7 to 8 a.m. from March 10 to Oct. 27. Listeners are free to call in anytime during the show. ••
