KYW GameChangers award given to The Block Gives Back

KYW (1060 AM) last week honored The Block Gives Back at its seventh annual GameChangers awards ceremony.

The ceremony took place at The Met Philadelphia, Broad and Poplar streets.

The nonprofit Block Gives Back focuses on, among other things, neighborhood cleanups, anti-violence programs and homeless support.

Tom Roush is president of the group, while Hakeem Ruiz is vice president. Both spoke at the event, with Ruiz mixing music and a Jason Kelce-type speech into his remarks. He also invited the crowd to follow the Block on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Tyreek Wanamaker, Felix Alvarez, Kevin Morales and Sean Rogge are Block Gives Back captains.

Nine individuals were also recognized as GameChangers.

In all, there were 160 nominations, with the winners chosen by a panel that included the 2018 GameChangers.

The event was hosted by Cherri Gregg, community affairs reporter at KYW.

The sponsors were Parx Casino, the Gift of Life Donor Program and Lincoln University. ••
