Friends of Pennypack Park cleaned up an area of the park near Torresdale Avenue on May 25.
In all, 34 volunteers collected 67 bags of trash and cans and 11 tires.

The group thanks Jim Hunsburger and Mike Lugo, of the city Department of Parks and Recreation, for removing the trash haul.
Items collected included two shopping carts; three rusted paint cans; a compact fluorescent light bulb; three pieces of plywood; a decorative wood table; a damaged cell phone; a kitchen knife; a broken coffee maker; an umbrella; two lawn chair cushions; a Rubbermaid tote and lid; a comforter; a hat; a winter glove; a work glove; two golf balls; a plastic lizard toy; Legos; a red Ford car door; a car booster seat; a gun case; a 6-foot metal pole; a 1-800 GOT-JUNK sign; two bags-full of glass; two losing $10 scratch-off lottery tickets; two bricks; and a stars and stripes mylar balloon attached to a bouquet of red, white and blue silk flowers.
The next cleanup will be on Saturday, June 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sandy Run, near Brous and Ryan avenues. Anyone under 18 needs a chaperone. Gloves, grabbers, bags, buckets, water and pretzels will be supplied.
