A shooting in broad daylight left two men seriously injured and led to a head-on crash Sunday in Mayfair, according to police.
The victims were sitting in a car behind a pizza shop around 2:30 p.m. near Cottman and Frankford avenues when two men approached and opened fire.
A 23-year-old man, who was in the driver’s seat, was hit in the left side of his neck, and a 21-year-old in the front passenger’s seat was shot in the left shoulder blade and the bullet traveled up to his neck, police said.
The men attempted to drive themselves toward Nazareth Hospital but collided head-on with another vehicle at Ryan and Rowland avenues, authorities said. Despite heavy damage, the men continued to the hospital’s emergency room, according to police.
Police said the 23-year-old is in critical condition while the 21-year-old is in serious but stable condition.
The two men were apparently trying to buy drugs behind Santucci’s Pizza, according to multiple media reports.
Authorities described the suspects as two black men ages 22 to 25. One was wearing a white T-shirt, and the other had short dreadlock-style hair.
No arrests have been made as of Tuesday. The investigation is active and ongoing with Northeast Detectives. ••
