Friends of Pennypack Park clean Sandy Run area

Friends of Pennypack Park recently cleaned the Sandy Run area of the park.

Volunteers removed 43 bags of trash and cans and an assortment of things.

The volunteers were Ralph Smith, Rich Glaser, Song Sawad, Priscilla Campion, Joe Sharkey, Roland Williams, Frank Gallagher, Ty Tyson, Robert McMunn, Jason Trenchard, Drew Brownlow, Mike Kinkaid, Karen Kaczorek, Dean Lynd, Alan Kaminsky, Chuck Jensen, Amanda Wood, Chris and Jess Stoeckhert, Frank Creyaufmiller, Sarah Downing, state Rep. Joe Hohenstein and aide Janet Bernstein, Kevin Sweetra, Joyce Ferrero, Patty Everly, Audrey Walmsley, canine mascot Missy and Nance Kerns.

They removed 40 bags of trash and three bags of cans.

Jim Hunsburger and Anthony Toro, of the city Department of Parks and Recreation, removed the trash pile.

FOPP applauds the Water Department’s waterways restoration crew that removed two trees. The crew consisted of Denis Mora, Luis Vargas, Mike Peterson, Gerald Stratton, Charles Shaw and Eric Taylor. Call 311 if you see a fallen tree in the creek.

Items removed included a woven nylon outdoor carpet, a stair stringer, a toilet, half a door, a piece of a broken doorknob, a frame of a folding chair, three sofa cushions, part of a sofa’s wood frame, roofing tiles, a trash can lid, an Angry Birds blanket, a Dutch oven, an inflatable mattress, a piece of carpet, a garage door spring, a baseball, a yoga mat, a Hello Kitty lid, a basketball, a rusty sled rail, a car trunk lid, a truck radiator, a truck front grill, a hotel pool guest card, a 1-800-GOT-JUNK sign and pieces of wood.

The next cleanup will be on Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Welsh Road and Cresco Avenue. Anyone under 18 must bring an adult.
