An employee who was working to install a storm drain near Lincoln High School is in critical condition after being electrocuted Thursday morning, police said.

The 46-year-old man was drilling underground to put in a water line on the 3200 block of Ryan Avenue when he hit a power line around 9 a.m., according to police. He was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, with plans to move him to Jefferson University Hospital.

Two other workers, a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old man, also received minor injuries and were taken to Jefferson Torresdale in stable condition, police said.

The incident caused a lockdown at Lincoln and Austin Meehan Middle School on just the third day of classes, and left residents without power from Torresdale Avenue to Roosevelt Boulevard between Cottman Avenue and Rhawn Street.

A spokesperson for the School District of Philadelphia said the schools were put on lockdown to protect students from power lines. The lockdown lasted about 30 minutes. ••
