Castor Gardens native Aunyea Lachelle recently played foosball with former Eagles running back Brian Westbrook and took tennis lessons from Billie Jean King.
Those are just two of the segments viewers can expect to see on “Philly Live,” a 15-minute live lifestyle and entertainment show hosted by Lachelle that premiered Monday, Sept. 9, on NBC10. It airs at 11:45 a.m. every weekday.
Lachelle, 26, whose name is pronounced On-yay, attended Franklin Learning Center in Spring Garden and still lives in the Northeast. After graduating from West Chester University, she spent four years at 6abc as a community affairs coordinator and digital reporter.
“Entertainment and lifestyle has always been my No. 1 passion,” said Lachelle, who joined NBC in July. “It’s really the only field that I’ve wanted to work in, in regards to journalism and TV and broadcast television.”
“I just feel like the city is full of so much energy, and we need to showcase that more,” she added.
The show, sponsored by Visit Philadelphia, the city’s tourism agency, will cover a wide range of topics, including local events such as Center City Restaurant Week. It’s a live show, though it will include some pre-taped segments.
Lachelle said she wants to highlight area restaurants, shops and other cool places.
“I’m very excited for this show to finally premieer,” she said in an interview Friday. “We’ve been working so hard on it, and I hope that the viewers not only enjoy the show, are not only entertained by the show, but they can use this show as a resource of things to do and see in and around the city.”
NBC’s 11 a.m. local news will be trimmed to make room for “Philly Live.” Lachelle urged readers to interact with her and make suggestions via the show’s Facebook group. Search “Philly Live.” ••
