The University of Delaware’s Tara Cohen was one of more than 400 undergraduate students who worked on a range of research projects in disciplines all across the university as well as in the community. Over the 10-week period, the students collaborated with their faculty mentors and, in many cases, with other undergraduates and with graduate students, learning how original research takes place and creating new knowledge themselves.

Casey Remolde, a St. Basil graduate, is a member of the defending co-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division champion Kutztown University women’s basketball team, which is the favorite to repeat in 2019-20, as KU was voted first in the PSAC East Preseason Coaches’ Poll. ••
The Bloomsburg University men’s swimming team named redshirt junior Matt Rocchi as one of three captains for the 2019-20 season. Rocchi is a graduate of Archbishop Ryan. His main strengths are in breaststroke, backstroke and the individual medley.

The following local students have been named to the dean’s list at University of the Sciences: Alicia Alex, Mei Ling Rong and Merlin Thomas. Selection for this award is based on completing and passing all assigned courses with no grade below a “C” and attaining an academic average of at least 3.4.

Sophomore Jason Dessalines was announced as East Stroudsburg University’s Homecoming “Royalty” during a recent bonfire pep rally. Homecoming “Royalty” is a politically correct term that has replaced King and Queen at some schools. Dessalines received $250 for the Student Government Association. Denasia Mosteller, also part of Homecoming “Royalty,” received $250 for the National Council of Negro Women.

The Kutztown University Rock Ensembles have announced their audition results for their Rock Ensemble I, II and III groups for the 2019-2020 year. Michaella Miles (vocals) and David Salamon (tenor horn) are members of the Rock I group.

Kutztown University has awarded 137 President’s Academic Honors Scholarships for the 2019-2020 academic year, including one to Elvy Decoo, a graduate of St. Martin of Tours and Archbishop Ryan. President’s Academic Honors Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who have a 3.25 high school GPA and a 1270 total on the SAT. The student will receive $1,000 per year for four years.

Widener University congratulates freshman nursing major Olivia Swearingen, who was among 100 people awarded $1,000 scholarships in a nationwide essay contest. The SAGE Scholars organization made the awards as “gap scholarships,” with the goal of helping to fill the gap between financial aid and what families contribute to a student’s education. ••
