A 26-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal beating that occurred Nov. 22 on the 3200 block of Guilford Street in Mayfair.
Officers arrived on the scene at 6:45 a.m. and found William Kleschick, 60, who lived on the block, suffering from severe head wounds. He was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital for treatment but died a day later, police said.
Edward Cofer, of the 4100 block of Barnstable Road in Bensalem, was arrested and charged with murder, burglary and other crimes, authorities said.
Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum, of Northeast Detectives, said investigators believe the men began fighting over money allegedly stolen from a car. Authorities think Cofer used a pipe in the altercation, he said.
Though he’s listed as living in Bensalem, Cofer often stayed on the 3200 block of Guilford with his girlfriend, Rosenbaum said.
Cofer is being held without bail at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility.
He has previously pleaded guilty to drug possession, DUI and related offenses in several cases in Bucks County and Philadelphia, according to court records. ••
