Volunteers needed for MLK Day

Volunteers are needed for Take Back Your Neighborhood’s Martin Luther King Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Volunteers will pack canned goods for a local food bank and clean up the interior and exterior of Max Myers Recreation Center, 1601 Hellerman St.

The day will include an African dance and skit, refreshments and MLK Day trivia and prizes.

2020 U.S. Census is hiring

Tacony Library, 6742 Torresdale Ave, will host a job fair for the 2020 U.S. Census on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. Employees receive paid training, flexible hours and weekly paychecks. ••

Summer camp expo on Saturday

The free Bucks Camp Expo will take place on Saturday, Jan. 18, from noon to 3 p.m. at Delaware Valley University’s Student Center Building, 700 E. Butler Ave., Doylestown.

Parents from Bucks and Montgomery counties and the Northeast will learn about 50-plus day and overnight camps.

St. William anniversary Mass on Sunday

St. William Catholic Church will host its 100th anniversary Mass on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 11:30 a.m. in the upper church, 6200 Rising Sun Ave.

Archbishop Charles Chaput will celebrate the Mass.

The Mass will be transmitted to the lower church at the same time for those with mobility issues and the overflow of participants.

John Birch Society meeting Tuesday

The John Birch Society will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Holmesburg Recreation Center, Rhawn and Ditman streets. There will be a presentation, The United Nations Deception.

Designer bag bingo at Maternity BVM

Local man receives prestigious award

Marquis Who’s Who, a publisher of biographical profiles, presented Bustleton resident Robert Harry Lane with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.

Lane is CEO of Lane Services LLC, a technology consulting firm in Levittown that was established in 2003.

The company seeks to provide organizations with the most cost-effective implementation, training, support and development services available.

Prior to forming Lane Services, Lane worked in the nonprofit world for more than four decades, including 22 years with the Boy Scouts of America and many years with the COMMON Education Foundation. He is a graduate of La Salle University. ••

Performance on lady justices

Trish Chambers will portray Women Justices of the Supreme Court for members and guests of KleinLife, 10100 Jamison Ave., on Thursday, Jan. 30, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Her performance will focus a spotlight on Sandra Day O’Connor, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.

Cost of admission is $5 per person.

Open house on Jan. 26 at Maternity BVM

Maternity BVM Elementary School, 9322 Old Bustleton Ave., will host an open house on Sunday, Jan. 26, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

The school invites families who are interested in having their children attend BVM. The open house will include tours, a scholastic book fair, a student art show, registration information and a chance to meet the teachers.

Comcast announced that xFi Advanced Security, a feature that automatically protects devices from online threats, will be included free for customers who lease an xFi gateway. The service is a $72 annual value.

Wine tasting event  at St. Hubert

St. Hubert High School’s Alumnae Association will host a wine-tasting event on Friday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria, near the Ditman Street entrance.

Tickets cost $35 and include 12 wine pairings, cheese, chocolate and Girl Scout cookies. People must be 21 to attend. The ticket deadline is Feb. 17.
