A parolee has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that left a man wounded Jan. 21 in Frankford.

Daiquan Benson, 25, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and related crimes. Investigators say he was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the shooting.

Officers at around 5:20 p.m. responded to the 4600 block of Griscrom Street and found a 29-year-old man in the street with a gunshot wound to his left arm and another to his left leg. Officers rushed him to Temple University, where he was listed in stable condition.

Investigators believe Benson and the victim got into an argument at a store on the 4600 block of Frankford Avenue. Benson allegedly chased the man back to his home on Griscom Street and opened fire.

Court records indicate Benson was sentenced to three to seven years in prison and five years probation in 2017 for illegally owning a gun. He was released from jail last February, according to the state Board of Parole’s website.

He has a lengthy criminal history, having previously served time for various drug offenses. Benson also has an active DUI case in Montgomery County.

A judge set Benson’s bail in the Frankford case at 10 percent of $750,000.

The shooting occurred just a block away from a double homicide that occurred on New Year’s Day. In the weeks since, community members have held several events geared at stopping the violence in the neighborhood. ••
