UPS conversation returns to CDR

The second CDR presentation concerning the UPS distribution center coming to 1 Red Lion Road went largely the same way as the first, with neighbors continuing to voice concern over traffic.

Project developers for the UPS distribution center coming to 1 Red Lion Road presented plans in front of the Civic Design Review for a second time in a meeting that played out similarly to the first.

Following the September CDR presentation, project developers made plans for increased landscaping around the site. But the design of the building was once again not the main concern of the Bustleton and Somerton residents who called in during the public comment section to express concern on the project’s location on a parcel of land surrounded by a residential neighborhood.

Since last time, project managers met with the Greater Bustleton Civic League and businesses along Sandmeyer Lane. A meeting with the Somerton Civic Association, the project’s registered community organization, never happened after disagreements between the two parties.

During the comments, Andy Heinrich, a traffic engineer hired by the GBCL to analyze the traffic study released for the project, said he believes the traffic impact could be four to five times more than what the study estimates during peak traffic hours.

Following the public comments, CDR board members remarked the concerns were out of the scope of what the board could do.

“It’s disheartening to have the same exact conversation twice,” said CDR chair Nancy Rogo Trainer.

The board noted this was among the longest project presentations in the last several years.
